Advantages and disadvantages of the following LAN topologies?

Advantages of a Star Topology

• Easy to install and wire.
• Can easily Add devices and remove devices.
• Can detect faults easily.

Disadvantages of a Star Topology

• Requires more cable length than a linear topology.
• If the hub fail every attached computer is disabled.
• More expensive than linear bus topologies because of the cost of the hubs, etc.

Advantages of Ring Topology

• Provision of local communication via a single channel
• No central server which reduces the cost of establishing the ring topology

Disadvantages of Ring

• Failure of one node result into entire network failure.
• Detection of fault is very difficult in ring topology.
• Isolation of fault is not easy in this topology
