Don’t Go to the Hospital Without These 7 Things

Hospitals… a place everyone hopes they never have to go. However, the reality is that sometimes it can’t be avoided. I would say that almost everyone, at least in this country, has been in a hospital, either as a patient or to visit or stay with a family member or friend.

Contrary to what some people believe, hospitals are not a sterile or sanitary place. It can also be a place of great stress because of the circumstances of being there. So there are a few things that I suggest you take with you to help protect you from unnecessary discomfort, illness if you are the visitor, and more illness if you are the patient.

Don’t go to the hospital without these 7 things

1. Sweatpants

Especially if you are the visitor. And if you have to stay a couple days or so, you probably will be sleeping in a chair or on a small couch, so sweatpants will be way more comfortable.

2. Shower caps for purses

Sounds funny, but put a shower cap on the bottom of your purse. This will keep all the germs, bacteria, etc. off the bottom of your purse. Yes, hospital floors are full of it. And that is usually where the purse goes. Throw the cap away once you leave.

3. Shoe covers

wear these on your shoes for the same reason you put shower caps on your purse. Discard when you leave.

4. Essential Oils

Often times if you are the visitor you can develop headaches just from the stress of the situation. I always carry oils for pain such as peppermint, wintergreen, PanAway and Deep Relief Roll-On. These oils also help with muscle aches and pains which is typical. I also carry StressAway Roll-On and Peace and Calming to relax and bring down stress. Just opening the bottle and putting it on yourself in the patients room can help the patient as well, since they will get the benefits of the aroma in the air. If you are the patient, it can be of great benefit to use in addition to pain medication, and maybe even reduce the need for some of it.

5. Herbal tea bags

Instead of beverages such as coffee or soda pop, herbal tea can be very soothing to the body. If you need to be there for a couple days or so visiting, you can get one that helps keep the bowels moving. It is easy to get constipated quickly because of the stress of changing your routine suddenly.

6. Lip Moisturizer

the air in hospitals is usually very dry and the lips tend to dry out fast. I don’t use the lip balms commonly in stores simply because it is basically a petroleum product. We get enough exposure to chemicals as it is without using products deliberately that adds to our toxic burden. Young Living has lip balms that are free of chemicals that harness the power of essential oils like lavender and also contain jojoba oil and vitamin E. My favorite is the Lavender Lip Balm.

7. Hand Purifier and Wipes

As I mentioned before about hospitals not being very sanitary, these items come in very handy. The wipes can be use for so many thing likes the hospital tray for the patient, wiping down the seat of chairs you sit in, the sink and toilet seat in the patients bathroom to name a few. I am also constantly using the hand purifier especially touching door handles. The same thing applies to these types of products as with the lip balm. I stay away from things with chemicals. Read your labels. Most if not all hand purifiers contain propylene glycol, which is Low Tox antifreeze. I prefer to use the Young Living Thieves Hand Purifier and the Thieves Wipes.

Take these 7 things with you whenever you have to go the hospital for whatever reason. It will make your stay a lot more bearable and protect you from unnecessary problems with sickness.
