In the past, we budgeted for market research.  This usually included our annual customer satisfaction survey and then we simply looked at our marketing plan and set aside a budget for the new product research we were going to do in the next year.

But before writing a marketing plan, we need to know our requirements, objective which we want to achieve, our resources which we are going to allocate for research process and desired output of this hectic procedure. Following is the typical outline for a research plan which is more or less same everywhere;
• Set Goals and objectives
• Check available resources of the organization
• Lay out your data collection channels (feedback)
• Brainstorm a list of questions.
• Assign questions to the collection channels
• Collect the raw data and analyze it
• Interpretation of the outcome
• Use extracted information for future planning
• Implementation
• Follow up
