In ATM network, a switched virtual circuit (SVC) is a temporary virtual circuit that is established and maintained only for the duration of a data transfer session. Temporary electrical path created between two points on 'as and when needed' basis. A telephone link created during a call is a SVC, because it is established when the call begins and vanishes when it ends.
